'In terms of brain development, musical performance is every bit as important educationally as reading or writing'

Oliver Sacks

With over 20 years’ experience as a Director of Music in outstanding independent schools, I have prepared hundreds of children for exams, competitions and scholarships. Many have excellent instrumental or vocal tutors but can frustratingly lose marks in exams, or when playing in a concert or competition, fail to perform to the standard they are capable of. Music as an art form is about enjoyment, communication and fun, and the sessions I run enable young musicians to tap into this joy, feel confident in all areas and approach performances with a more positive mindset.

Working with musicians from early grades to Diploma standard, sessions are tailored to the individual's need, but may focus on:

Rehearsing with a piano accompaniment and creating a musical performance

Communication with the audience and stage craft

Preparation of supporting tests in examinations ( aural tests, sight-reading, scales, additional tests)

Tools to cope with performance anxiety

Mindful exercises to anchor a performance

As an experienced accompanist (GBSM; ABSM Piano Accompaniment) I am available to play for examinations, competitions and concerts.

I also offer individual and group Grade V Theory preparation
